The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has laid down the official dates for October 2025 grant payments. Beneficiaries are advised to note these dates to ensure they get their grants on time and thus budget well for their month.
October Payment Dates For Grants
The grant payment dates are set out as follows:
- Thursday, 2 October 2025: The Old Age Grant.
- Friday, 3 October 2025: The Disability Grant.
- All Other Grants, which includes the Child Support Grant, will be paid 6 October 2025 and onwards.
These staggered payment dates are for easier disbursement and also to avoid congestion at payment points.
Points Beneficiaries Must Remember
SASSA urges grant-holders to stay away from rushing to the pay points on the first day of payment. Monies will stay in the beneficiary account during the payment window, so beneficiaries can withdraw their funds at any time.
Beneficiaries should call SASSA’s toll-free line on 0800 60 1011 or go to the nearest SASSA office for guidance or any other issue related to payments.This will help in resolving any problems arising from late payments or ambiguous instructions.
Stricter Identity Checks: Biometric Requirement
From 1 September 2025, all new applications must include biometric enrolment data, whether it be fingerprint or facial recognition, among other things. SASSA argues that this will curb fraud, prevent people from receiving two grants, and in fact ensure that only deserving recipients benefit.
According to SASSA CEO, Themba Matlou, his staff are completely trained and the infrastructure has been upgraded to accommodate biometric systems. The agency assures that implementation shall be done with transparency and security.
Increases In The Recent Past
Earlier on in the year, as at April 2025, several social grants were increased in an effort to deal with the increasing cost-of-living pressures. Key changes include:
- The Old Age Grant was raised from R2,185 to R2,315.
- The Disability Grant was similarly increased from R2,185 to R2,315.
- The Child Support Grant was increased from R530 to R560.
With such adjustments, the government reflects its commitment to assisting vulnerable citizens through monetary aid while ensuring fiscal sustainability.
